This graph shows the increased viewership for true crime media on YouTube. It has become increasingly popular for YouTubers to tell these stories while eating, applying makeup., or cooking. This approach to true crime has been heavily criticized, but heavily rewarded as it only becomes more and more popular. Many of these channels even sell memorabilia focused on the stories they tell.

Although ethical concerns have become bigger and bigger in regards to true crime. A majority of the consumers of this type of media have no concern over the ethical problems of what they view as entertainment. Many times true crime media is used as a way for women to express "victimhood under patriarchy and provide an emotional outlet". This could be why many people have no concerns, as they could see themselves in the victim's place.
